Barcelona Contemporary Art Museum (MACBA)

MACBA (MACBA)

Today’s Barcelona Hostal Residencia Australia recomendation is to visit the great :

Barcelona Contemporary Art Museum (MACBA)

Combining straight lines and curves in a continuous dialogue between the interior spaces and the light outside, the building, inaugurated in 1995, is a work by Richard Meier. It’s about what is more interesting in this museum.

Macba – Barcelona In1959 the art critic Alexandre Cirici Pellicer believed in the need to create a Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona.

MACBA (Barcelona Contemporary Art Museum) is dedicated to works from the second half of the 20th century. There are few works in the permanent collection and once in a while interesting temporary exhibitions.
Between 1960 and 1963, Cirici and Cesáreo Rodriguez Aguilera headeed a group of individuals who began to put together a collection with the objective of constituting the basis for the future museum. In February 1963, the opening of the exhibition El arte y la paz, with a clear political commitment, exposed the narrow limits of what was then permissible.

In 1986 Barcelona City Council, invited the North American architect Richard Meierto take charge of the project for the new museum. The City Council’s Department of Culture commissioned the art critics Francesc Miralles and Rosa Queralt to draw up a report which would serve to define the philosophy of the future museum. In 1987 theMACBA Foundation brought private enterprise into the project. The MACBA was officially inaugurated on the 28th of November of 1995.

The Joan Miro Foundation museum

joan miro

Today’s Barcelona Hostal Residencia Australia recommendation is to visit The Joan Miro Foundation museum, enjoy it !

The Joan Miró Foundation opened to the public on 10 June 1975. It had its origins in Miró’s first large exhibition in Barcelona, in 1968, at the Antic Hospital de la Santa Creu. Several figures from the world of the arts saw the opportunity to have a space in Barcelona dedicated to the artist’s work. However, in accordance with his wishes, the new institution was also to promote and publicise the work of contemporary artists in all its aspects. At a time when artistic and cultural life was certainly minimal, the Foundation brought a refreshing vitality, together with a new, more dynamic concept of an art museum in which Miró’s art was shown alongside a wide variety of creative works by other artists – a fact that is reflected in the Foundation’s full name of Centre for the Study of Contemporary Art.

Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudí architect

Sagrada Familia

Today´s Barcelona Hostal Residencia Australia recommendation is to visit the great Sagrada Family temple

The architecture of Barcelona has been most influenced by the work of Antoni Gaudí. One of Gaudí’s greatest creations is the Sagrada Familia a giant Temple that has been under construction since 1882. This building is the number one most visited attraction in Barcelona catering to over 2,000,000 visitors per year.
Once you enter the Sagrada Familia you can visit the museum which is housed in the building. The museum details the history and development of the Sagrada Familia and also gives fascinating insights into Gaudí himself.
This museum offers a truly fascinating visit because you will see photos of the development of the Sagrada Familia from the present day back to its early beginnings. There’s also a model of the Sagrada Familia depicting what it will look like once it’s completed (predicted to happen in the next 30 years).
Due to the very high numbers of people that visit the Sagrada Familia this museum is one of the most visited and popular museums in Barcelona.

Museu Picaso of Barcelona

museu picasso of Barcelona

Today´s Barcelona Hostal Residencia Australia recommendation is:

The Museum is very rich in regard to work from the training periods in the life of the artist; we could say that it is practically exhaustive up to the Blue Period, of which the Museum has a priceless group of works. Furthermore, the Museum houses an important representation of works from 1917, and the series, Las Meninas (1957) and a very large Picasso’s prints collection, now displayed in the rooms opened in the beginning of 2008.

The Museum has undergone successive renovations and expansions, and it’s currently starting to develop new programmes, activities and services to become a reference place, envisaged to spreading knowledge and to fostering the visitor’s participation and critical views. The Museum wishes to be a dialogue space, exploring new approaches to Picasso’s work and influence and offering new perspectives on the Museum Collection.

The history of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona is the chronicle of the artist’s firm wish to leave the imprint of his art in our city. Thanks to the wishes of Picasso and his friend and personal secretary, Jaume Sabartés, Barcelona now has the youthful work of one of the twentieth century’s most significant artists.

Museu Picasso of Barcelona by Barcelona Hostal Residencia Australia

Dear friends :

Barcelona Hostal Residencia Australia culture recommendation for this week is for visiting:

Museu Picasso of Barcelona

The Picasso Museum in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the
formative years of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. The genius of the young artist is
revealed through the more than 3,800 works that make up the permanent
collection. Furthermore, the Museu Picasso, opened in 1963, also reveals
his deep relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that
was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death.
