Saturday, 4.20pm, the lunchtime rush has died down. Most local customers
are taking coffee and *licors*. “Paella for Pablo,” the call goes out. And,
at 4.23pm Pablo has his paella, done the way he wants it – with a whole *
butifarra *(sausage) on the side. This very popular, well-organised, local
standby, its pavement tables set to catch the best of the afternoon
sunshine, is always busy. For good reason – they serve a reliably good
range of tapas including *pescadito frito *(whitebait) *gambas
rebozadas *(prawns in a light batter), mussels, sausages and the whole kaboodle. Vegetarians
will be pleased to note that they serve a wonderful vegetable paella with

Tomas Lorenzo offers performance based individual and group guitar tuition for secondary education. Students learn in a group setting that is also an ensemble that performs.

A guitar world music ensemble is created for each participating school allowing guitar students of all levels to perform a selection of compositions that reflect the diversity of contemporary Australian culture.

Group tuition with performance orientation is a low cost effective manner of learning music creating a stimulating educational environment that quickly allows the students to understand and use the primary elements of music which are melody, harmony and rhythm.

Once the student is exposed to the joy of expression through music, once he or she feels good about what they are doing , once the student is given a task he or she can accomplish and play in a group setting , they will want to and need to know more.

My goal is to establish the individual tasks needed to achieve the enjoyment but with a clear defined educational goal of:

1. Development of left and right hand guitar techniques
2. Understanding of major scales, modes, and time signatures
3. Bilateral Integration: Development of rhythmic coordination between the left and right sides of the body
4. Melodic and harmonic recognition: both aural and applied to the instrument
5. Songwriting analysis
6. Style analysis
7. Development of short term and long term memory capability
8. To develop understanding of music in a group situation where team work is required to achieve the final performance.

Tomas Lorenzo is a Berklee College of Music Degree Graduate also with a Masters in Music obtained in Spain at the Barcelona Conservatory called the “Esmuc”. He has taught at the Conservatory of the Liceo, Barcelona, Spain for over 10 years and was responsible for curriculum development in the areas or composition and performance. He is also an ex professor of the Paul Mc Cartney School of music in the UK called LIPA ( John Moores University ).

His teaching research has been published in the book: “El Arreglo un Puzzle de Expresión musical “. A standard 374 page textbook now in it´ 4^th edition used internationally throughout Spanish speaking secondary and tertiary educational institutions of Europe, South and Central America.
